Whew… What a month. Things were crazy here. Sure, we kept a calm demeanor in public, but getting Alpha together and running it was a lot of work. We worked 12-16 hour days, weekends, lost a lot of sleep (maybe even some sanity), but still, joining you guys in the game and seeing how much fun people were having made it all worth it. And we enjoyed playing it too! Devs that like their own game?
We want to thank you, our players, for joining us and spreading the word out. Media sites and personalities that made time to come give us a chance and see that although we’re indie, we’re making something special here. So many of you are here from having seen TotalBiscuit’s video on YouTube (the sudden traffic from his video temporarily broke our site, even! ...and yes, we’ve fixed it so that won’t happen again) We’ve all grown together, and made City of Steam as a community. We couldn’t have made it this far without your support and dedication. Thank you!
We’re now in the process of sifting through all the bug reports and list of suggestions. The plan is to fix and polish the game, then start adding loads more content for the Beta launch, which we’re currently aiming for about 3 months from now. Can we do it? Who knows! I mean yes! I mean… hopefully! It all depends on how long it may take to get the game ready for a proper Beta test, and as most of you know, we’d rather have a quality game ready for you to enjoy (late) than a rushed and broken mess (early). Either way, we’ll be keeping you up-to-date on progress, so keep checking us for more Dev Journals, Announcements, Forum discussions, and maybe a few extras thrown in.
So, how ‘bout some stats? No? Too bad!
After the 3 first Alpha weekends having about 3000 – 4000 players, we finished with a bang with just under 7000 players having joined the final weekend. Not bad for an indie dev, huh? Many of these extra players came from Kongregate, who helped us host the Alpha test on their site. A big thanks goes to the good folks and community at Kong for supporting us!
Most popular class, across all weekends was of course, the Gunner, with Warder and Arcanist fighting for second, and Channeler being the last (why no love for the support class?). Still, the longest played class overall was Channeler… Guess some of you discovered how Channelers are totally not OP, eh? (We blame Gab)
We’ve also gone up from just over 9000 registered users before July 18th, to now a whopping 26,000 (and growing). We want to see this grow even more! (Sure, call us greedy, but we love seeing those numbers go up)
Remember to keep an eye on us, and join our Forum community (if you haven’t already). We’re on our way to Beta, and we’re rolling full steam ahead!
