The power gap that followed the fall of the Paragons granted the people of the World Machine an opportunity that had previously been unavailable to them and out of the disorder and chaos three great nations rose to prominence. Of them, Avenoss, the country now famous for its fine mounts, clockwork technologies and iconic pastures was most ambitious.
In its contemporary setting, Avenoss has flourished into a hub of culture, a landmark of higher education and a country that excels in precision engineering. Settled into a comfortable political republic by governance, Avenoss only lightly imitates its historic role as the core of some of the greatest wars since the establishment of the New Epoch.
A period ranging from 47 NE to 202 NE, encompassing both the “Rise of the Superpowers” and “The Independence Wars”, saw Avenoss at odds with its borders, expanding into other countries, city-states and terrorizing the Crownlands. While their immediate neighbors were conquered quickly, their advances soon met with Stoigmari and Ostenian resistance, slowing and eventually halting their advance.
Unlike the other superpowers, newly annexed Avenian territories were not cooperative in ceding to their rule. Whether this was due to propaganda by the opposition, or simply because the regime at the time was too strict is still a subject of debate. As a consequence, Avenoss was forced to relinquish many of their conquered lands, and retained only their newly established colonies.
Proud and patriarchal the Avens abide fiercely to social traditions and operate family businesses that pan across many generations, with responsibility passing from father to son. Beyond the traditionalism Avens are known to be stern intellects that have contributed to massive technological advancements, especially in clockworks and vehicle designs. Even today, their military reserves are almost 20 years more advanced than that of any other nation.
